Are sure it wasn’t Brian Blade on drums? Colaiuta played on the European leg but was replaced by Blade for the US tour.

It is an incredible show and all the first three shows sold out! If you were not able to get a ticket in Berkeley because there were none - the show is in Modesto on Tuesday the 24th. This is a once in a lifetime tour. It’s worth the drive!

I’m glad you got a chance to check out this historic concert that I think is going to turn out be a high water mark in both of these amazing artists’ careers.

You’re right on the money about the band gelling. I wonder if the double CD is going to be as fantastic.

Yeah, I did leave out Dr. Jackle, though not because I wasn’t impressed. I just couldn’t read my notes, but your comment jarred my memory.

Great tune. I love the way the band takes the head, which is basically all rhythmic accents, tutti and only after McBride starts walking is Dr. Jackle revealed to be a swing tune.

By the way, not to be snotty or anything, but I think Better Git It In Your Soul is in 6/8.

Great review -thanks for getting it out so quickly!

I was there last night, and it was just an incredible show. It was just wonderful to see these guys at the peak of their powers, gelling as a band as well as shining individually. You captured most of the highlights. One you didn’t mention was McLaughlin’s solo in Dr. Jackle, where they turned a medium 4/4 tune into a fast 3/4 riff on Mingus’ “Better Git It In Your Soul” - unbelievable!

It was a real privilege to be there.
