All Jazzbo Notes members are invited to enter the “Woody Witt - A Conversation” Giveaway Contest.
A Conversation is a collection of eight original compositions featuring the trio of Woody Witt on tenor and soprano saxophone, Fred Hamilton on guitar or bass, and drummer Ed Soph.
Collectively, these gentlemen have played or recorded with Stan Kenton, Bill Watrous, Woody Herman, Clark Terry, Joe Henderson, Marvin Stamm, Dave Liebman, Randy Brecker, Tim Hagans, Kenny Wheeler, Bill Frizell, and Joe Lovano, among others.
Here’s what others have to say about Woody Witt…
…an artist quickly developing a reputation as an up-and-coming blistering modern tenor player in the tradition of Michael Brecker and Chris Potter. Witt’s warm tone and strong upper register have become trademarks in a style that can vary from rooted hard-bop to nuanced free playing. — Andrew Lienhard, Jazz Houston
Woody Witt continues the tradition of great ‘Texas Tenors’ with a big fat sound, fresh ideas and a decidedly modern and original approach to improvisation and composition. A perfect combination of building on the past and searching for the future. — Randy Brecker, Grammy award winning trumpeter/composer
Top line contemporary jazz by Woody and his friends, covering all the bases and done with passion and grace. — David Liebman, saxophonist with Miles Davis, Elvin Jones and others
A Conversation was issued on the Blue Bamboo Music label, founded by guitarist Chris Cortez in 1986, primarily as a vehicle for his own work as a jazz musician and composer. For a period of time, Blue Bamboo was located in Slidell, LA, before hurricane Katrina forced the company’s relocation to Houston, Texas. After about a year of downtime, the label re-emerged in 2007. Happily, Blue Bamboo’s artist roster is expanding, adding some exciting new artists to the label.
