WORTH A LISTEN

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Yeah, sure these tracks culled from John Scofield’s tenure with the Gramavision label are phenomenal, but then again, the producers of this compilation could have picked ANY 12 tracks from the Gramavision years and the results would have been superior. I have given this compilation a three star rating, not for the music, which is five-star all the way, but rather to encourage you to pick up Scofield’s better Gramavision releases to start with, and hopefully to end up getting pretty much everything.

Don’t waste your entertainment dollar — start by picking up the Gramavision releases Still Warm, Blue Matter, and Loud Jazz and prepared to be blown away. The other Gramavision releases, Electric Outlet and Flat Out, are not essential, but still good.

Fans of Scofield’s fusion years should also pick up I Can See Your House From Here, Scofield’s dueling guitars date with Pat Metheny.
