FINDING OUT OF PRINT TITLES
Finding out of print titles can be a real challenge in a fragmented niche market like jazz. There is very little real incentive for record companies to keep these titles, which constitute America’s only real contribution to music (unless you count rap and hiphop — alright, I admit they count).
Here are a few resources that you might want to try.
AMAZON
Let’s start with the obvious.
For me, Amazon.com is a great resource because it brings together so many sellers under one roof. And their prices aren’t bad either.
ALLMUSIC
Go to allmusic.com and look up the specific release. In the lower left hand corner, if the title is available to one of the merchants who have a deal with allmusic.com, a link will show up, something like “See all 3 Sellers.” Click on the link and choose a seller to buy from.
GOOGLE SHOPPING
Go on Google and click on the Shopping link in the upper left corner. Type in something like “Live at the Lighthouse Elvin CD” (without the quotes) to see if anyone is selling Elvin Jones’ Live at the Lighthouse CD.
GOOGLE SEARCH
Do a regular search on Google. Type in something like “Elvin Jones” “Live at the Lighthouse” CD (with the quotes) and see what comes up in the first few pages of searches. You might get lucky.
INTERNATION VERSIONS OF AMAZON
Go on some of the international versions of Amazon, like United Kingdom and Japan. I found a copy of Live at the Lighthouse, Volume II on the Japan site.
EBAY
Look for it on Ebay.
If anyone can think of any other methods, email me at m_kydonieus@hotmail.com and I will credit you for your idea. Thanks in advance for your help.
