ECM Records

Known for its stylistic impact not only on the music but also on the related artwork, ECM is above all a record company that stays faithful to its artist’s works: the catalog comprises any record that has ever been made at ECM and availability is guaranteed. And this catalog is getting really huge as you can check by yourself.

Edgetone Records

Edgetone Records describes itself as “the groove on the edge of tone.” They go on to say that they present “the pure vision of the artist without compromise or preconception.”

Emanem

Emanem Records is an independent record label based in London specialising in free improvised music. The label was founded in 1974 by Martin Davidson assisted by Madelaine Davidson. The main purpose of the label was to document the London free improvisation scene. It has become a prolific source of both archival recordings (notably its extensive documentation of the work of John Stevens and the Spontaneous Music Ensemble) and new recordings of improvised music.

EmArcy

EmArcy Records is a jazz record label founded in 1954 by Mercury Records, and today a European jazz label owned by Universal Music Group. Today EmArcy is a global force in all styles of improvised music, from electronica, swing, progressive as well as adult oriented pop music through to world music and modern jazz it is home to many new and exciting artists as well as some of the most influential musicians in the genre. From Sonny Rollins to Dee Dee Bridgewater, John Scofield to Madeleine Peyroux, EmArcy stands for the highest quality and diversity in jazz and jazz influenced music, from all over the world, creating true diversity in expression.

Enja

A nice site with plenty of artist profiles and sound clips. Enja artists include Kenny Barron, Lee Konitz, Steve Swallow, and Paul Motian.

Entropy Stereo

Entropy Stereo Recordings was formed from the ashes of Uprising Records by Mike Khoury. Mike started the label in 1997 to make available some of the most important creative music recordings of our time. The label’s goal is to feature work by creative musicians that might not be heard otherwise. The goal is to feature music by improvisational, jazz, free jazz, and challenging music from different artists with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Envoi Recordings

Envoi Recordings specializes in free jazz. Some of their artists include Andrew Bishop, Matt Blostein, Vinnie Sperrazza, and Ryan Mackstaller.

Eremite Records

Eremite Records is a label that supports modern jazz artists who would otherwise be underrecorded, such as Peter Brotzmann, Han Bennink, John Blum, and Khan Jamal.

Erstwhile Records

Erstwhile Records is devoted to electroacoustic improv records by such artists as Keith Rowe, Eddie Prevost, and Lou Gare.

ESP-Disk

ESP-DISK opened for business in New York City in 1966 on the 12th floor of 156 5th Avenue. During its first 18 months, 45 albums were recorded and released, featuring previously unknown free improvisational artists. The only exceptions were Ornette Coleman and Paul Bley, both of whom had gained global recognition during the 1950’s. Artists who made their debuts as leaders on ESP included Albert Ayler, Sun Ra, Gato Barbieri, Bob James, Marion Brown, Roswell Rudd, Burton Greene, Patty Waters, Henry Grimes, Charles Tyler, Sunny Murray, Milford Graves, Sonny Simmons, Ronnie Boykins and Frank Wright.

Evander Music

Phillip Greenlief started Evander Music in 1995 as an outlet for his own music. Since then Evander Music has opened the label up to like-minded individuals who want the freedom to release their recordings without succumbing to artistic demands from an outside party.

Evening Star Records

The Evening Star label was founded in 1992 by Ed Berger of the Institute of Jazz Studies of Rutgers University, with the assistance of Benny Carter. Evening Star is an independent label featuring jazz artists who have been overlooked by the major companies, new talent, and occasional special historical issues.

Evidence Music

Evidence Records is the home to over 300 jazz and blues classics including Sun Ra, Art Blakey, Project G-7, Carl Weathersby, and Buddy Guy.

Evolving Ear

Evolving Ear showcases avant guarde and industrial noise improv, including such artists as Peeesseye, Phantom Limb & Bison, Lambs Gamble, and Bhob Rainey.
