C3R

C3R, founded in Fergus, Ontario in 2002 by Zach Murr, deals in a wide variety of new and experimental music, from free improvisation to noise to modern composition, and all points in between. The label’s first release was ‘Fantail’ by Merzbow, the Japanese noise legend.

Cadence Jazz Records

Cadence Jazz is an American record label specializing in noncommercial jazz music. It is associated with Cadence Magazine. Cadence Jazz was founded by Bob Rusch in Redwood, New York in 1980. By 2000 the label had issued more than 100 albums.

Candid Records

Since it’s inception some forty years ago, Candid Records has released jazz albums by the likes of Charles Mingus, Max Roach, Abbey Lincoln and Coleman Hawkins. Over the past decade, Candid Records has widened its international scope and has a deep committment to young artists. Singer Stacey Kent, who is popular worldwide is the vanguard of the new Candid breed which also includes vocalists Clare Teal, Monica Vasconcelos, saxophonists Jim Tomlinson and Dave O’Higgins and singer/pianist Jamie Cullum.

Caroline Records

Caroline Records started out as a subsidiary of Richard Branson’s Virgin Records label during the early to mid 1970s. The label originally specialized in putting out budget price LPs by mainly progressive rock and jazz artists generally not considered to have a great deal of ‘mainstream’ or commercial appeal, but were often however creatively of great interest.

Challenge Records International

Challenge Records International is an independent record label, specialized in classical and jazz, located in Hilversum, Holland.

Charly Records

Charly Records is a British record label which specialises in reissued material. Among the labels whose original releases are reissued by Charly are Vee-Jay, Sun Records, Immediate, BYG, Tomato, and Fania. Charly Records was founded in France in 1974 by Jean-Luc Young, who had been a promoter of teen concerts, but moved to the UK in 1975. Charly was originally known mainly for French-originated jazz and other modern oddities such as the Bullocks Brothers, but it is now mainly known as an album-oriented “retro” label.

Chesky Records

A label founded in 1978 by pianist David Chesky. The label seeks out the finest in jazz, classical, and Latin jazz and seeks to capture the live essence of the world’s finest musicians.

Chiaroscuro

A small, independent record company formed in the 1970’s to record and promote classic jazz artists who were largely ignored by major record labels in search of “pop” or “fusion” jazz artists.

CIMP Records

CIMP is dedicated to documenting a broad range of creative improvised music in audiophile sound.

Circle Records

Circle Records is a United States based record label specializing in jazz, founded in January of 1946 by Rudi Blesh and Harriet Janis.

Clean Feed Records

Clean Feed Records is a jazz record label. The company was founded in 2001 in Lisbon, Portugal. The label has issued 75 albums as of December 2006. Its roster of artists includes Mark Dresser, Charles Gayle, Dennis González, Elliott Sharp and Otomo Yoshihide.

CMP Records

The small German label features Trilok Gurtu and “recordings of traditional musics from Indonesia, Turkey, and India.”

Collectables Records

Collectables Records is a reissue record label founded in 1980 by Jerry Greene. Genres found on Collectables include nearly every style of rock music, plus jazz, comedy, blues, doo-wop, funk, and many others.

Compass Records

Compass Records is a Nashville-based independent record label founded in 1995 by Garry West and Alison Brown. Presently home to nearly 100 folk, bluegrass, Celtic, jazz, and new acoustic artists, the label releases about 20 records a year.

Concord Music Group

The excellent Concord family of labels includes Concord Jazz, Concord Picante (Latin jazz), Good Time Jazz (reissues), Concord Vista (contemporary jazz), Contemporary (post bop), Jazz Alliance (independent recordings), Fantasy (contemporary jazz), Monterey Jazz Festival Records, Peak Records, Original Jazz Classics, Prestige, Riverside, Milestone (contemporary jazz), Pablo (contemporary jazz), Heads Up (Jazz, Fusion, R&B) and Stretch Records (eclectic).

Contemporaneo Art Music

Contemporaneo Art Music is a new label dedicated to music streams such as fusion, crossover Southamerican rhythms, Latin jazz, modern tango, Brazilian music, classical contemporary, etc, mainly instrumental, but also with some vocal works along those lines. Based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Contemporaneo Art Music features artists like Pedro Menendez Ensemble, La Vuelta , Ipanema, and Zona Tango.

Cosmic Sounds London

This jazz label specialises in Eastern European jazz re-issues and new downtempo/club orientated jazz dance. Growing fast and expanding by signing artists from other countries like the UK and Japan.

Cryptogramophone was formed in 1998 to serve the needs of a community of creative musicians. These musicians required an outlet that would preserve their musical integrity and creative vision, while making the music available to a wider audience. CuBop Records is an American music label, founded in 1991 as a division of Ubiquity Records. It became and began operating as an independent entity in the 1990s, but remains part of Ubiquity Records. The label has had huge success with Arturo Sandoval, Dave Pike, Bobby Matos, Francisco Aguabella, Jack Costanzo, Johnny Blas, Marlon Simon, and Papo Vazquez.

Cuneiform Records

Cuneiform Records is an independent record label based in Silver Spring, Maryland. The label releases a mixture of musical styles, including progressive jazz, modern fusion music, progressive rock, the Canterbury Scene (and related artists) and electronic music.
